Geography

Geographical Location

The municipality is located in northeastern North Rhine -Westphalia, in the south of the East-Westphalian district of Minden -Lübbecke. Geographically, the village is located in the hills of the Ravens Mulde. The municipality is bounded on the north by Wiehengebirge on whose crest run predominantly the boundaries of the city Luebbecke, also in the west to the city of Prussian Oldendorf, in the extreme southwest of the municipality Roedinghausen and very east to the community Hille. With the Heidbrink, 320 m above sea level. NN, has the municipality Hüllhorst together with Luebbecke the highest peak of this mountain. The 315 -meter-high knee Brink is completely on Hüllhorst territory. Overall, however, belongs only to a narrow, between 200 and 500 meters wide strip of wooded Wiehengebirge to the municipality, as this mountain is a typical desk Scholl mountains and gently to the north, but abruptly drops to the south. The most significant transitions in Wiehengebirge are the Kahle Wart and the B239 at Reineberg, but both represent no real incisive pass in the mountains.

The predominant part of the municipality is part of the Ravens Mulde, a predominantly hilly and zertalten basin landscape. Numerous shaped by human hands valleys ( Sieke ) cut into the landscape partly abruptly. A well-known Valley is the Nightingale, the south of the small village Hobrink located in the border area of the districts Büttendorf, Hüllhorst and upper peasantry. The entire municipal area falls to the south continuously. Therefore, the area is drained predominantly south to Werre out. Important tributary on the territory of the municipality is the Rehmerloh - Mennighüffer mill stream, and its tributary Tengerner Bach. In the south, at the Huchzen the municipal area drops to a height of around 65 meters.

The nearest big cities are Bielefeld (30 kilometers south ) and Osnabrück ( 50 km west ).

Geology

The Ravens Mulde consists predominantly clay marl, limestone and sandstones of the Mesozoic ( Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous ). The one to two kilometers thick sediments were lifted in the history of the earth and decomposed by orogenic processes in saddles, hollows, nests and trenches. In this fraction folded mountains the earlier undisturbed successive layers of rock are now next to each other and arranged in part from overturned in storage. In deeper underground, the rocks of the Paleozoic ( Devonian, Carboniferous, Permian) are to be found.

Due to the complicated geological structure of the community there are large qualitative differences in the groundwater resources. Because of salinization of deep subsurface ( halite and gypsum) many water resources are not used as drinking water.

The municipal area is a large area of fertile arable soils ( Luvisols ), which have arisen from loess. Primarily due to weathering are sandy -loamy to loamy - clayey emerged brown earths.

Hüllhorst is from south to north increasingly mediocre to very good for the use of geothermal heat sources by means of borehole heat exchanger and heat recovery by the heat pump (see the accompanying map ).

Expansion and use of the communal territory

The municipality covers an area of 44.73 km ². In this case, the field extends quite long on Wiehengebirge along. The maximum east - west distance is about 11 km. The largest north-south extent is about 5 km.

The fertile loess landscape promoted early intensive agricultural use. Forests there is therefore only in residual stocks, primarily in the numerous valleys such as the Benkhöfer break and in the mountainous Wiehengebirge. In contrast to the coniferous forests of the Wiehengebirge is in the woods in the Talungen predominantly deciduous and coppices. Of the locals are also these "bush " called (eg Rehbusch and others). In these Talungen is also the largest part of the grassland, which is mostly used for grazing and is pronounced as Siek. The loess plateaus be used up to the mountain forests of the Wiehengebirge. The following table shows the exact land use.
