I Spy (also: Tennis Racket and guns and tennis, Spy; later seasons as a tennis rather than guns) is an American television series that ( Paramount Television last) produced by Triple F Productions under the aegis of Desilu Studios been. She turns to the secret orders of two agents and is, as a parody of the spy movie genre.
Action
The heartthrob Kelly Robinson, disguised as a professional tennis player, as well as the linguistic genius Alexander Scott, officially the Tennis Coach, are secret agents for the Defense of the United States. Together they experience daring adventures at home and abroad.
Broadcast
I Spy was first broadcast in Germany with selected 26 episodes between June 1968 and June 1969 at ZDF. A further 29 episodes were rather sent from October 1977 to December 1978 in the eve of ARD programs under the series title Tennis now used as cannon. Several repetitions followed in the private Sat.1 (as well as a tennis rather than guns) and ProSieben. The latter sent seven in 1991 and 1993, a further five episodes of the series, now under the title of tennis, racquet and cannons in Original. The pay- TV channel Crime & Co. from the DF1 bouquet finally showed, in addition to the complete repetition of the series, in 1996 the remaining episodes. Also on kabel eins, the series was repeated.
Title
The working title at start of production was initially Danny Doyle. It set out to be a Original Title I Spy by (Eng. about " I Spy "). It is derived from the children's game " I spy with my little eye ... ", which corresponds to the German " I spy with my little eye ". In German-speaking countries, the series was aired under various titles, first with I Spy, in recent times more likely among tennis, racquet and cannons.
Instrumentation and synchronization
Tennis player Robinson is played by a white (Robert Culp ), his coach Scott from a colored actor (Bill Cosby ). This combination was a novelty on U.S. television. In general, it was the first time that a colored man landed a starring role in a television series of the U.S. main evening program. For stand- up comedian Bill Cosby, the series was the entry into the U.S. television. He quickly developed to a size of U.S. television and coined among others, the sitcom The Cosby Show.
The producer of the series, Sheldon Leonard, joins the series as a guest in the role of Sorgi. Also, the series creator David Friedkin had twice made a guest appearance.
For the German synchronization Karlheinz Briinnemann and Rainer Brandt were responsible. They laid, similar to your synchronous success " The Two ", the protagonists one or the other flippant word in his mouth.
Merchandising, film projects and spin-offs
Parallel to the TV series was released in the U.S. as a novel series I Spy (1965-1968) and as a comic book series, which was moved from 1966 to 1968 by Gold Key Comics. In the agent Comedy Series Mini - Max Racquets ... was parodied in 1968. Robert Culp appeared after the end of the series again and again in productions of Bill Cosby. They always cited the series. So Culp appeared in the series The Bill Cosby Show in the episode A shiny hairstyle (1987 ) in a guest role as Scott Kelly. The name alludes to the two main characters I Spy Kelly Robinson and Alexander Scott. In addition, Robert Culp starred in the television series Cosby 1999. Here he played in the episode Hilton, I Spy ( Original: My Spy ) in a dream sequence by Bill Cosby 's I Spy - role Kelly Robinson.
In between, in 1994, was created with Bill Cosby & Co. - The Island of Lost Dreams ( Original text: I Spy Returns), a television film in which Robert Culp and Bill Cosby slipped into their old roles after 26 years. They were supported by Bennett Robinson ( George Newbern ) and Nicole Scott ( Salli Richardson ), two CIA agents and children of the two series figures.
I Spy With the fabric of the series was in 2002 re- processed in a movie with Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy in the lead roles.
Awards
The series won the 1967 Golden Globe for Best TV Show. Bill Cosby was awarded for the role of Alexander Scott three times the Emmy Award ( Best Actor ).
DVD Release
In December 2005, the first season of the series was released in Germany for the first time on DVD. In June and August 2006, followed by the remaining two seasons.
