Ida C. Ward

Ida Caroline Ward ( born October 4, 1880 in Bradford in the North of England; † 10 October 1949 in Guildford, England) was a British linguist, who explored mainly African languages ​​.

After 16 years as a teacher at various high schools they came in 1919 to the Department of Phonetics at University College London. As a child of the north of England had developed an innate sense of phonetic differences in the English and European languages. She has written several academic books on topics from the English language before they are almost exclusively turned to the West African languages ​​, such as the Efik (1933 ), the Igbo (1936 and 1941 ), the Mende (1944 ) and the Yoruba ( posthumously published in 1952 ).
