Idlewild is the name of the seventh album by the rap group OutKast U.S.. It accompanies the eponymous film by Bryan Barber, in which the duo playing the lead roles, as a soundtrack, but at the same time be regarded as a standalone album.

About the Album

Originally Idlewild should appear in November 2005, but the release date was postponed several times because some songs were created only after the filming of the movie Idlewild.

The music genre on Idlewild ranging from Dirty South ( "Hollywood Divorce " ) over R'n'B ( " Peaches ", "In Your Dreams" ), soul ( " Mutron Angel ", " Dyin 'to Live " ), Swing ( " When I Look in Your Eyes " ), jazz ( " Makes No Sense at All " ) and blues ( " Idlewild Blue " ) to psychedelic rock (" A Bad Note " ). Some of the songs contain bits of dialogue from the film. Andre 3000 and Big Boi are heard as a duo only on three of the songs, most songs were in separate production.

Singles

Although only released as a single to download the song Mighty " O " the most successful single from the album was, with only No. 77 Officially on the Billboard Hot 100 was then Morris Brown released as the first single, on the Internet at the same time Idlewild Blue ( Do not tchu Worry ' Bout Me). The song debuted at number 95 just as one on the Billboard charts. In the UK Top 40, he reached number 43 in the Swiss charts number 57 in the Media Control Charts Platz 98 Idlewild Blue, the third single, was able to place on rank 100 yet in the U.S., in England it was enough for 55th place. The fourth and fifth single, Hollywood Divorce and The Train were only published as records for U.S. and UK clubs.

Mighty " O" and Idlewild Blue ( Don'tchu Worry ' Bout Me) were nominated in 2007 for Best Rap Performance By Duo or Group and Best Urban / Alternative Performance Grammy.

Achievements

Idlewild was with # 2 on the Billboard charts and two platinum records in the United States as successful as ATLiens and Aquemini, but could not build on the successes of Stankonia and Speakerboxxx / The Love Below. In Germany it reached rank 33, in Switzerland it was with rank 4 of the most successful long player from OutKast, however placed only six weeks in the charts.

Reviews

The album was generally positive criticized as Idlewild, the movie. The e-zine laut.de praises about the enormous range of musical styles and gave the album 4 out of 5 points, but also believes that " hip hop purists " at Idlewild the "teeth hard nut " would.

The U.S. magazine Rolling Stone thinks that OutKast would have been forced by the enormous success of Speakerboxxx / The Love Below to release another album as a duo, instead of pursuing solo careers. It compares Idlewild with Fleetwood Mac's Tusk and parade of Prince, which has a similar concept to Idlewild. Both were also commercially risky successor of a hugely successful album. The magazine gave the album 4 out of 5:

According to the All Music Guide can not withstand the comparison with previous works OutKast album, so it was only 2.5 out of 5. In addition, the rarity of André 3000s rape and the increasing presence of his vocals is criticized.
