Ilija Christow Gruew ( Bulgarian Илия Христов Груев, English transcription. Iliya Hristov Gruev; born October 30, 1969) is a former Bulgarian football player.

Career

As a player

Ilija Gruew began his career at PFC Montana and later played for Levski Sofia, Altay Izmir, Slawia Sofia, Lokomotiv Sofia and Burgas Neftochimik. From there, the attacking midfielder moved in 2000 to the German second division club MSV Duisburg, where he 80 games in the 2nd Bundesliga played in four years, scoring 11 goals. 2004 moved to Gruew regional league KFC Uerdingen 05, where he was an active season. After the withdrawal of licenses for Uerdinger Gruev played for second division relegated FC Rot -Weiß Erfurt, where he ended his active career at 30 June 2006.

In the Bulgarian national Gruev came to a total of 13 missions.

As a coach

He has a coach -A license and was only from 1 July 2006, assistant coach at the A-Juniors FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and then from the 2007/ 08 Bundesliga coach of A-Juniors FC Rot- Weiß Erfurt. He was also at this time successful player coach of FSV resin 04 Erfurt.

Between 8 January 2009 and December 2010 was Gruew assistant coach on the side of Krassimir Balakov the Bulgarian first division club FC Chernomorets Burgas, where with Fredi Bobic acted another ex- professional footballer, as athletic director. In January 2011 Gruew was chosen by Lothar Matthäus as the assistant coach for the Bulgarian national football team after Zanko Tsvetanov moved to Cypriot Anorthosis Famagusta. As Balakov was hired at the Croatian club Hajduk Split in the summer of 2011, followed him Gruew again as an assistant coach. As of March 22, 2012 trained Gruew, again under Balakov, 1.FC Kaiserslautern as an assistant coach.

On 18 May 2012, the first FC Kaiserslautern announced the separation from the coaching team.

3 September 2012 Gruew awarded a contract as an assistant coach until the end of the season at his former club, the MSV Duisburg. There he worked under Kosta Runjaic who had the relegation-threatened club adopted at the same time as head coach. Together they led the MSV on the 11th place in the table. Runjaic stressed at the time that he was only fulfilling his current contract until 2014, when Gruew would receive a new contract. It was followed by the relegation of the MSV Duisburg due to the withdrawal of licenses. At first it seemed as if the coaching team would remain together at MSV, but Runjaic left the " zebras " because the club could not guarantee a license for the third league. For this reason, Gruew hesitated long before he ultimately with the license obtaining a new contract with SV Meidericher signed and there since then continues to operate under Karsten Baumann as an assistant coach.

On September 24, 2013, the first FC Kaiserslautern announced the renewed commitment Gruews. When FCK he will work under head coach Kosta Runjaic and next to assistant coach Oliver Schäfer as another assistant coach. The contract runs until June 2015.
