Illizi Province

The Illizi (Arabic ولاية إليزي, DMG Wilāyat Illizi ) Province is a province ( wilaya ) in southeastern Algeria.

The province is located in the Sahara and on the east by Libya, it covers an area of ​​179 011 km2.

With only about 47,000 inhabitants ( 2006 estimate ), it is settled extremely thin, the population density is thus only about 0.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. Many of the inhabitants are Tuareg.

The provincial capital is Illizi, more well-known places are Djanet and In Amenas.
