Indre

The department of Indre [ ɛ ː dʀ ] is a French department of order number 36 It is in the center of the country in the Centre region and was named after the Indre River. Its capital is Châteauroux.

Geography

The Indre is bordered to the north by the department of Loir -et -Cher, on the east by the department of Cher, on the south by the department of Creuse and Haute -Vienne and to the west by the departments of Vienne and Indre -et -Loire.

The eponymous Indre crosses the department from the southeast to the northwest and flows also defined by the centrally located capital of Châteauroux. In the north of the department of borders for a short distance to the Cher, which also forms the border with the department of Loir -et -Cher there. To the west of the department is the Regional Natural Park of Brenne, whose cultural landscape is characterized by a large scale since the Middle Ages ponds and lakes.
