Infante Alfonso Carlos, Duke of San Jaime

Don Alfonso Carlos ( I) de Borbón y Austria -Este, full name Don Alfonso Carlos Fernando José Juan Pío de Borbón y Austria -Este (born 12 September 1849 in London, England; † September 29, 1936 in Vienna, Austria ) was known as the Duke of San Jaime and Duke of Anjou. Pretender 1931 to 1936. He was the last male contender the Carlist line on the Spanish and French throne.

Life

Carlos Alfonso was the second son of Juan (III ) Carlos de Borbón, Count of Montizón ( 1822-1887 ) and his wife Archduchess Maria Beatrix of Austria -Este ( 1824-1906 ), youngest daughter of Archduke Francis IV, Duke of Modena and Reggio and Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy. His paternal grandparents were Carlos María Isidro de Borbón and Doña Francesca Maria de Bragança, Infanta of Portugal.

On April 26, 1871 Don Alfonso Carlos in Lisbon married his cousin ( second degree) Maria de las Neves de Bragança, Infanta of Portugal ( 1852-1941 ), daughter of the Portuguese king Miguel I and his wife Princess Adelaide of Löwenstein -Wertheim - Rosenberg. From the harmonious marriage went forth a son, but he died shortly after birth.

The Duke of San Jaime died in Vienna in 1936 and was buried at Castle Puchheim. From 1936 to 1952 there was no official pretenders of the Carlist movement.

After the death of Alfonso Carlos Alfonso XIII was.
