Inge Genefke

Inge Genefke ( born July 6, 1938 in Frederiksberg) is a Danish neurologist. She founded in 1982 the Rehabilitation and Research Centre for Torture Victims (RCT ), a device for support of victims of torture, based in Copenhagen, and in 1985, the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims ( IRCT ), for which she from 1985 to 1997 as medical director then to 2000 served as general secretary. Life

Inge Genefke was born in 1938 in Frederiksberg, where she also graduated from high school until 1956. Then studied medicine at the University of Copenhagen, where she earned her degree in 1965. In the following years she devoted herself to, among other things, Strasbourg, Paris, Munich, Germany, Switzerland and Italy biochemical research on biogenic amines. From 1968 to 1971 she was then a research fellow at the Institute of Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen, before continuing formed from 1972 to 1982 at the University as a specialist in neurology.

Inge Genefke that belongs since 1969 to the Danish section of Amnesty International (AI), was involved in the 1973 begun AI 's campaign against torture, in particular the organization also called for an improvement in the medical care of victims of torture. Inge Genefke served from 1985 to 1997 as medical director and then as general secretary and from 2000 as Honorary Secretary General and from 2002 as Ambassador of the IRCT. In the area of ​​research, she devoted herself primarily psychotherapeutic aspects of the care of victims of torture and the forensic diagnosis of torture by burns and electric current through the detection of morphological changes in the skin.

Inge Genefke was married from 1965 to his first wife and married in 1991 to his second wife the doctor Bent Sørensen, who works as a consultant for the IRCT and from 1988 to the UN Committee against Torture was a member until 2000.
