Insjön

Insjön is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Dalarna County and in the historical province of Dalarna.

Location

Insjön belongs to the municipality of Leksand. The town is located some 30 km as the crow west-northwest of the provincial capital of Falun and eight kilometers southeast of Leksand community center on the left bank of the Österdalälven, the left component of the Dalalven. Above the village, the river leaves the eponymous lake Insjön. Insjön is the second largest town of the community according to its central place Leksand.

The village lies on the railway line from Uppsala to Mora ( on the section from Borlänge also called Siljansbanan; kilometer 194), which was opened in 1881 to Insjön and 1891 continue to Mora. The National Highway 70 which starts in Enköping north-west of Stockholm, is the most important compound from this direction in the province of Dalarna and continues on to Idre and the Norwegian border at the level of the south end of the lake Femund.

History

The place was first mentioned in 1325 as Aall. In the Middle Ages there was a church, the center of the parish was Åhl in a row, from 1863 seating a rural community ( landkommun ). After 1881, the final stop of the railway line to Dalarna, set back from the original location after the nearby lake was called Insjön, also took over the place this name in 1884. The parish is still called Åhl (partly is the modern spelling Ål in use).

As part of local government reform in 1971 remained Insjön first independent community, but went in 1974 to the municipality of Leksand.

Attractions

In the northeastern part of the town, on the lake Insjön, the church AHLs or as kyrka, which was built from 1761 to 1767 in place of a previous medieval building in its present form is.

Economy

Insjön 's seat and logistical headquarters of the major shipping and retail company Clas Ohlson AB. It is there since its inception in 1918 (initially in the spelling Clas Ohlsson ) resident, and today has more than 140 stores in Sweden, Norway, Finland and the UK. The Clas Ohlson - department store in Insjön, located in the significant tourist area around Lake Siljan, now attracts every year hundreds of thousands of visitors to the town. There is also a sawmill in the village.

In Insjön also another big trading company had its origin, the department store chain Åhléns. It was founded in 1899 as a mail-order house Åhlén & Holm and was up to the headquarters moved to Stockholm in 1915 in Insjön resident. One of the two founders, Johan Petter Åhlén, was originally called Andersson, but changed this very common name from the original location name Åhl in Åhlén.

In the village there is a museum on the history of the company Clas Ohlson; located in the vicinity and the made-up in the original state initial seat of Åhlén & Holm.

Education

Just off Insjön is Sätergläntan, early 20th century as a vocational institution for folk handicrafts and arts and crafts (Swedish Hemslöjd ) emerged. There, now one year of professional training and short courses in forging, weaving, sewing and woodworking are offered.
