International Monohull Open Classes Association

IMOCA ( International Monohull Open Class acronym for Association) is an association founded in 1991 which is involved in the organization of regattas and sailing world championships such as the Vendée Globe. The IMOCA is since 1998 member of the ISAF ( International Sailing Federation).

She put the binding rules for the spread in offshore racing boat class of monohull to 60 feet (approx. 18.29 meters) in length; these boats are referred to as open or as a 60 " IMOCA 60 ".

The association counts regatta participants, organizers and boat builders with their members who deal with sailing yachts for flyaways. It was brought to life after the first Vendée Globe, to the class of monohull boat of 60 feet in length ( IMOCA 60) to establish binding rules. Its founding members include Isabelle Autissier, Christophe Auguin, Alain Gautier and Jean -Luc Van Den Heede.

The Association manages the class of the Open 60 boats, which was recognized as an International Class by the ISAF in 2001 and is working on rules for regattas this class, such as the Vendée Globe, the Calais Round Britain Race and The Transat.

The IMOCA also hosts an annual World Championship for boats of this class that aims to increase the popularity of the boat group. The development of the class of boat is making great progress, it is one of the fastest sailboat classes at all.

The world champions were among the IMOCA last Bernard Stamm, Jean Le Cam and Mike Golding.

President of the IMOCA is since April 2008 Jacques Guilbaud. Its predecessor was Luc Talbourdet.
