Invincible (Michael Jackson album)

Invincible ( invincible German ) is the tenth and final solo album of Michael Jackson, which was published during his lifetime. It was released on 29 October 2001 and was thus Jackson's first album in the 21st century. Invincible has sold about 16 million copies internationally and was available in five colors: red, green, yellow, blue and silver standard.

The album reached number one in the charts in Germany, for example, the USA, Great Britain, France, Russia, Japan, Italy, Sweden, Ireland, Romania, Spain, Portugal, South Korea and Canada. Shortly before the release was Michael Jackson known not to renew the contract with Epic ( Sony Music ), whereupon the former head of Sony Music, Tommy Mottola, all singles releases, video recordings, as well as the promotion of Invincible broke.

Promotion and singles

Preliminary appeared on 22 August 2001, the single You Rock My World with intro by Michael Jackson and U.S. comedian Chris Tucker. Also a short film called You Rock My World was released in which Michael Jackson and Chris Tucker took over the lead roles. Despite good reviews and radio a nomination for a Grammy ( Best Male Vocal, Pop ), the song was able to celebrate only moderate success on the charts. In Germany he reached for example, 6th place

Before the release of the album took place on 7 and September 10, 2001 instead of two concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden, with whom Michael Jackson his 30th stage anniversary celebrated. In addition to Jackson himself appeared among other stars such as Whitney Houston, Usher, Britney Spears and many others to honor Jackson. During these concerts Michael Jackson also sang the new single You Rock My World.

On 7 November 2001, Michael Jackson gave an autograph session at Virgin Megastore in New York.

On 3 December 2001, the song Cry was released as the second single from the album. The single was not particularly successful. So she reached for example number 25 in the charts of the UK and number 65 in Australia. On the single, the song Shout was to find who was actually intended for the Invincible album, but was not replaced in the last second against You Are My Life.

From album actually seven songs should be released as a single ( You Rock My World, Unbreakable, Butterflies, Cry, Break of Dawn, Speechless and Whatever Happens ). However, after a great dispute between Jackson and Sony Music all single releases were canceled after Cry. Nor was held the usual world tour.

Commercial success

It became apparent that the success of the album wore off quickly. Michael Jackson blamed the former record boss of Sony Music, Tommy Mottola, responsible and accused him during a public appearance in front of the Virgin Mega Store in New York City, he supported African American Artists too little. In fact, the promotion for the new album was almost non-existent. If you had, for example, prior to publication of the previous album HIStory - yet established than-life statues in the major cities of the World Past, Present and Future Book I was not even advertised on TV Invincible. Despite the poor marketing and only two single releases You Rock My World and Cry ( Cry was released as a single only in Europe) Invincible sold about 16 million copies internationally.

In 2010, the album was voted the Billboard Album Of The Decade.
