Iowa Park is a city in Wichita County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located 8 km west of Wichita Falls in North Texas, is removed from the border with Oklahoma about 10 miles and has a total area of 10.4 km ², of which 1.0 km ² water surface.

History

The town was founded in 1888 as Daggett Switch on the line of Fort Worth and Denver City Railway. Settlers from Iowa gave the place its name according to their origin.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 6,431 people in 2,460 households and 1,867 families. The population density was 682.1 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 95.96 % White, 0.26 % African American, 1.09 % Native American, 0.37 % Asian, 0.03 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 0.90 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.38% were of mixed descent, and 3.58 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 2,460 households, 37.1 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.7 % were married couples living together. 11.2% were single mothers and 24.1 % were non-families. 21.5 % of all households were single-person households and 9.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size amounted to 3.02.

27.5 % of the population were under 18 years old, 8.4 % from 18 to 24, 28.4 % 25-44, 21.8 % from 45 to 64, and 14.0 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 92.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 89.2 males.

The median income for a household was $ 40,725, and the median income for a family $ 45,199. Males have a median income of $ 31,372 versus $ 21,237 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,882. 10.0 % of the population and 7.1% of families are below the poverty line. Of which 18.4 % have children under the age of 18 and 6.3% of those 65 or older.
