Ismaël Lô

Ismaël Lô ( born August 30, 1956 in Dogondoutchi, Niger ) is a Senegalese musician.

Life

His father is Senegalese, his mother Nigrerin. Shortly after his birth his parents returned back to Senegal, where he grew up in Rufisque. He attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Dakar.

On a trip through Gambia, he met the band Super Diamono de Dakar, after he finished his art studies, went into the group and in the 1980s the music scene in his home country significantly influenced. Super Diamonos music combined the customary mbalax with reggae and jazz. Their lyrics were about corruption and unemployment. After four years Lô moved to Paris where he took four albums with producer Ibrahima Sylla.

He is a versatile singer and artist. In addition to his singing talent, he learned to play guitar and harmonica.

Lô 's song Tajabone was the theme tune for Pedro Almodóvar's film All About My Mother, and the French animated series Kassai and Leuk, he composed the theme song Samba Et Leuk.
