Ismail al-Azhari

Ismail al - Azhari (Arabic إسماعيل الأزهري Ismā ʿ al - Azhari īl; * 1902 in Omdurman; † August 26, 1969 ) was a Sudanese politician.

Ismail al - Azhari was 1940 president of the first political organization in Sudan, the Graduates General Congress, and in 1952 president of the National Unionist Party ( NUP ). The NUP won the parliamentary elections with Egyptian support. From January 6, 1954 to July 7, 1956 he was Minister President of Sudan and led the country on January 1, 1956 in Independence. A coalition of the Umma Party of former Mahdi and the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP ), the political wing of the Khatmiyya Brotherhood, led half a year after the country's independence to his downfall.
