Israel Chamber Orchestra

The Israel Chamber Orchestra (ICO ) was founded in 1965 by Gary Bertini. In addition to the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra ( Zubin Mehta ), it is the most prestigious and most important orchestras of Israel. Seat of the orchestra and venue of annual concert series is Tel Aviv- Jaffa.

Artistic Director

Founder Gary Bertini was ten years artistic director of the orchestra; He was followed by, among others, Luciano Berio, Rudolf Barshai, Uri Segal, Yoav Talmi, Shlomo Mintz, Philippe Entremont ( chief conductor from 1995 to 1998, and later honorary conductor ), Salvador Mas Conde (1998-2001), Noam Sheriff (2002-2005) and Gil Shohat ( 2005-2008). In January 2009, Roberto Paternostro was appointed musical director.

Repertoire

The orchestra's repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music. Elizabeth Wallfisch was appointed Program Director of the Baroque center of gravity 2009. The Viennese classics can be found just as regularly in the programs of the ICO as premieres of works by Israeli composers.

The ICO designed annual concert series for young audiences. "For the Entire Family" is equally well received by children, teenagers and critics.

International concerts

Concert tours have taken the Israel Chamber Orchestra in several Central European countries, North and South America and the Far East. Guest performances at festivals in Salzburg, Athens, Sofia, Helsinki, other European capitals, Istanbul, Pompeii and Hong Kong brought the Kammerorchester the reputation of being one of the best of its kind.

In 2010 under the leadership of Roberto Paternostro concerts in Germany (Stuttgart, Cologne), Austria (International Haydn Festival Eisenstadt, Linz Bruckner Festival ) and CD recordings in Vienna. Soloists Elena Bashkirova occur for the first time with the ICO in Europe.

On 27 July 2011, the Israel Chamber Orchestra played the first Israeli orchestra ever composed by Richard Wagner in Bayreuth Music ( Richard Wagner is considered an anti-Semite and Hitler's favorite composer ). The project, which was under the patronage of Catherine Wagner was controversial and intensely in Israel in advance.

From 12 to 18 September 2013, the IOC played in Upper Austria's capital Linz with a great success under the direction of renowned conductor Martin Sieghart the opera " The Treasure Hunter " by Franz Schreker in the processing of Prof. Werner Steinmetz. International Choirs with the Israel Chamber Orchestra occurred were, so far, the Vienna Boys Choir, the Tölz Boys Choir, the Prague Chamber Choir, The Brigham Young University Choir, the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne, the Stuttgart Chamber Choir, the Gulbenkian Choir, The Netherlands Chamber Choir and other.
