Noam Sheriff

Noam Sheriff (Hebrew נועם שריף; born January 7, 1935 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli composer.

Life

Sheriff studied with Paul Ben -Haim in Tel -Aviv, Boris Blacher in Berlin and Igor Markevitch in Salzburg composition and conducting at the University of Jerusalem and philosophy. From 1963 to 1989 he taught composition and conducting in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. In 1990 he became professor of Rubin Academy of Tel Aviv, which he headed from 1998 to 2000. In addition, he was from 1973 to 1982 director of the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra, taught in the period 1983-1986 instrumentation at the Musikhochschule in Cologne and was from 1989 to 1995 Music Director of the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion -. Since 2002 he has been director of the Israel Chamber Orchestra.
