Issyk Kul Province

The area Issyk Kul ( Kyrgyz Ысыккөл областы; Russian Иссык - Кульская область / Issyk- Kylskaja Oblast ) is one of seven areas of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. It is located in the northeast of the country and is bounded on the north by Kazakhstan and in the south of China. The region has an area of ​​43,144 km ² and around 450,000 inhabitants. The population density is 10 inhabitants per km ² relatively low; The area consists largely of the high mountains of Tianshan. The name is derived from the mountain lake Issyk Kul, which covers about one -seventh of the area of ​​the region.

The administrative center of the region is the city of Karakol (formerly Przhevalsk ). It is situated near the eastern shore of the lake.

Geography

In the south of the area Issyk Kul is located on the southern slope of the Kyrgyz Mountains, the source of the Naryn, which is the major source of the river Syr Darya. In the tri-border region with China and Kazakhstan is the Dschengisch Tschokusu (formerly Pik Pobedy ) the highest mountain in Kyrgyzstan. Traffic
