István Jónyer

István Jonyer [' iʃtva: n' jo: ɲɛr ] ( born 4 August 1950 in Miskolc, Hungary) was in the 1970's to the best table tennis players in the world.

Career

Jonyer was 1975 World Champion in singles. He defeated in the final Antun Stipančić after a 2-0 set deficit to 3-2. In doubles, he won twice the World Cup, also in 1979 he was with the Hungarian team team world champion. At the European Championships he won one gold in double and two gold medals with the team. Between 1967 and 1982, he finished at the Hungarian National Championship a total of 25 times the first place, namely six times in singles, 11 doubles and eight times in the mixed doubles. He played in the club Budapesti Spartacus, in the early 1980s he was a year-long stint in Italy and then moved to the Austrian club UTTC - Stockerau.

He was appointed Vice- President of the Hungarian Table Tennis Association After 331 official international matches Jonyer ended his international career in 1984 .. end of 1996.

Jonyer is since 1971 married to Maria Nemeth born and has two children ( Istvan and Maria). In the 1990s, he operated a sporting goods business with 20 employees. Currently ( August 2008) he plays in the 1.Mannschaft SV Salamander Kornwestheim 1894 in the district league.
