Ivan Moskvitin
Ivan Jurjewitsch Moskwitin (Russian: Иван Юрьевич Москвитин; † after 1647) was a Russian explorers of the 17th century.
Life
Moskwitin probably originated in Moscow. He discovered the Sea of Okhotsk, the Shantar Islands and the Sakhalin Gulf and was the first Russian to reach the Pacific. From 1639 to 1641 he explored the Russian coast, after he had gone down the Ulya River. The case established winter settlement was the nucleus of today Okhotsk.
