Jacob K. Shafer

Jacob K. Shafer (* December 26, 1823 in Broadway, Rockingham County, Virginia; † November 22, 1876 in Eureka, Nevada ) was an American politician. Between 1869 and 1871 he represented the Idaho Territory as a delegate in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and career

Jacob Shafer attended until 1843, the Washington College in Lexington, emerged from the later the Washington and Lee University. Then he studied until 1846 in Staunton Jura. After moving to Stockton in California, he began to work as a lawyer. In 1850 he was district attorney for the fifth judicial district of California. In 1852 he became mayor of the city of Stockton; 1853 to 1862 he was district judge in San Joaquin County.

Political career

In 1863, Jacob Shaver moved to the Idaho Territory. He was a member of the Democratic Party and was elected as a delegate for this in 1868 in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he Edward Dexter Holbrook replaced on March 4, 1869. For the elections of 1870, Shafer was not nominated by his party. He was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1871.

After the end of his political activities in the federal capital Washington Shafer returned to the Idaho Territory, where he worked as a lawyer again. Later he moved to Eureka in Nevada, where he died in 1876.
