Richard H. Stallings

Richard Howard Stallings ( born October 7, 1940 in Ogden, Utah) is an American politician. Between 1985 and 1993 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Idaho in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

Richard Stallings attended the public schools in Ogden and then 1960-62 a mission school in New Zealand. In 1965 he graduated from Weber State College, 1968, the Utah State University and the Colorado College. From 1969 to 1984 he taught the subject of history at Ricks College, now Brigham Young University in Rexburg.

Political career

Stallings was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1982 he ran for the first time in the second constituency of Idaho for the U.S. House of Representatives, but was defeated by Republican George V. Hansen. Two years later he was able Hansen with less than 200 votes to beat advantage and take over his seat in Congress. After three re- elections, he was able to exercise this mandate between January 1985 and January 3, 1993 3 in four legislative sessions. In 1992 he ran unsuccessfully against Republican Dirk Kempthorne for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

1993 Stallings was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the Government Commissioner for Nuclear Waste ( United States Nuclear Waste Negotiator ). This office he held as the last incumbent to 1995; then this authority was abolished. In 1998, Stallings ran again for the U.S. House of Representatives, but was defeated Mike Simpson. Between 2005 and 2007 he was chairman of the Democratic Party in Idaho and a member of the City Council of Pocatello. Richard is married to Renee Stallings Stallings.

At the Democratic National Convention of 1988, he received without having a candidate, three votes for the nomination for U.S. president.
