Jacques Dupin

Jacques Dupin ( born March 4, 1927 in Privas; † 27 October 2012 in Paris) was a French poet, writer and art critic.

Life and work

Jacques Dupin was the son of Pierre Dupin, the medical director of a psychiatric hospital, and Léonie Dupin, born Descamps. He spent his childhood in the department of Ardèche. After the Baccalauréat in 1944 he went to Paris, where he studied law, art history and political science. Contact to art, he got through visits to museums, so he visited the Louvre, the Musée National d' Art Moderne and Art Galleries. He dealt with contemporary poetry and surrealism, read Franz Kafka, Maurice Blanchot, and William Faulkner. He met René Char, who wrote a foreword for Dupin first publication in 1950, Cendrier du voyage. Although he was regarded as his successor, he evolved from work to work in an opposite direction. His lyrics aroused the admiration of writers and artists such as Antoni Tàpies; Paul Auster translated his poems into English.

Dupin has worked for many galleries, mainly for the Fondation Maeght, and Galerie Lelong. The work brought with it that he met many artists of modern art, such as Alberto Giacometti and Joan Miró, whose biographies he wrote.

Dupin was awarded the National Prize for Poetry in 1988. Dupin - In 2009, the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona Dupin an exhibition titled Miro devoted. Art i poesia.
