Jakob Seisenegger

Jakob Seisenegger (* 1505 ( place of birth unknown), † 1567 in Linz ) was a German painter of the 16th century.

Life

Seisenegger first-time documented occurrence was in 1530, when he, among other paintings on behalf of Archduke Ferdinand I. a first portrait of his elder brother Emperor Charles V anfertigte during the Diet of Augsburg, an image that has been missing today.

1531 Seisenegger was appointed by the nunmehrigen Roman German king Ferdinand I appointed court painter and finally imposed after the coronation of Ferdinand Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in 1558 to the peerage.

After he worked at various locations in central Europe for many years, he moved into in 1549 for the first time a permanent residence in Vienna. From 1561 lived Seisenegger in Linz, where he eventually plagued by increasing loss of his eyesight died towards the end of 1567.

One of his most important works is the painting Emperor Charles V with dog, signed and dated 1532. The now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna issued picture in oil on canvas was created in Bologna and founded Seisenegger reputation as the creator of the Habsburg representation portrait in full figure. Thus he created a much- imitated model, which among other Titian for his own, more famous portrait of Charles V. (now in the Museo del Prado in Madrid) was used as a template.

In 1953 ( 22nd District ) was named after him in the Seiseneggergasse Vienna Danube city.
