James Genus

James Genus ( born January 20, 1966 in Hampton ( Virginia)) is an American jazz bassist.

Life and work

James Genus began at the age of six years with the guitar and switched to bass at age 13. He studied from 1983 to 1987 at the Virginia Commonwealth University, including Ellis Marsalis, and eventually moved to New York where he made ​​his name as a session musician of the local jazz scene. 1988/89 he played in the formation Out of the Blue, with Vincent Herring, 1989 Horace Silver, 1989/91 with Roy Haynes and Don Pullen.
