James J. Walsh (New York)

James Joseph Walsh ( May 22nd, 1858 in New York City; † May 8, 1909 ) was an American lawyer and politician. He represented the years 1895 and 1896, the New York State in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Joseph Walsh was born about three years before the outbreak of the Civil War in New York City and grew up there. During this time he attended public schools and St. James' Parochial School. He graduated in 1877 from Manhattan College, and in 1879 at the Faculty of Law at Columbia University. His admission to the bar he received in 1880 and then began to practice in New York City. Between 1889 and 1894 he was inspector of schools to community schools. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1894 for the 54th Congress Walsh was in the eighth election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edward J. Dunphy on March 4, 1895. His choice, however, was successfully challenged by John M. Mitchell on a technicality at registration. Walsh difference thus after June 2, 1896 from the Congress.

After his time Congress he resumed his activities as a lawyer. In 1905 he was appointed magistrate (city magistrate ) - a position which he held until his death on May 8, 1809 in New York City. His body was interred in the Calvary Cemetery in Long Iceland City.
