John M. Mitchell

John Murry Mitchell ( born March 18, 1858 in New York City; † May 31, 1905 in Tuxedo Park, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1896 and 1899 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Murry Mitchell was born about three years before the outbreak of the Civil War in New York City and grew up there. During this time he attended Leggett 's School. He graduated in 1877 from Columbia College (now Columbia University) in 1879 and its law faculty. His admission to the bar he received in 1879 and then began to practice in New York City. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1894 for the 54th Congress of Democrat James J. Walsh in the eighth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC was chosen, where he became the successor of Edward J. Dunphy on March 4, 1895. His choice, however, was successfully challenged by Mitchell on a technicality at registration. Walsh difference thus after June 2, 1896 from the Congress. After a successful regular election following Mitchell suffered a defeat in 1898 and retired after the March 3, 1899 from the Congress of.

After his time Congress he resumed his activities as a lawyer. He died on 31 May 1905 in Tuxedo Park and was then buried in the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
