Jan Blockx

Joannes Josephus "Jan" Blockx ( born January 25, 1851 in Antwerp, † May 26 1912 in Kapellenbos in Antwerp) was a Belgian composer.

He studied in Antwerp with Peter Benoît and in Leipzig with Carl Reinecke. In 1886 he became a teacher at the Flemish Music School and in 1901 director of the Conservatory of Antwerp. With his operas and choral works, he is one of the most important Flemish composer Benoît next.

He is buried in the cemetery Schoonselhof in Antwerp.
