Jan Brokoff

Johann Brokoff (also: Brokof, Prokop, Czech: Jan Brokov; * June 1652 in George Berg, Zips, † December 28, 1718 in Prague) was a sculptor of the Baroque in Bohemia.

Life

Johann was Brokoff (, Hungarian Szepesszombat Slovak Spišska Sobota ) born in Mount George in the County of Zips, which then belonged to Hungary. After training in Regensburg in 1675, he came on the move to Prague. From 1680 he worked in various places in Bohemia and settled in 1690 with his family in Prague. He founded a sculpture workshop and acquired in 1693, the Prague citizen. Even earlier ( 1682) he converted to the Catholic faith.

In Prague, he was entrusted with the plastic decoration of the Charles Bridge, for his son Ferdinand Maximilian Brokoff created several saints independently. 1706-1709 he had bigger orders the Benedictine monastery in Braunau.

After his death, the workshop of his elder son Michael Johann Brokoff (1686-1721) was continued. Johann Brokoff and his sons were buried in the cemetery of Prague Church of St. Martin in the Wall ( Kostel statého Martina ve zdi ). With a memorial stone there remembered her today.
