Jan Kanty Steczkowski

January Kanty Steczkowski (* October 16, 1862, † September 3, 1929 ) was a Polish politician and Prime Minister.

Biography

On December 7, 1917, the economist and lawyer by Jan Kucharzewski was appointed finance minister in his cabinet. This he retained until the end of his term of office on 27 February 1918.

On April 4, 1918, he was then in place of Antoni Ponikowski himself Prime Minister of the regency of the Kingdom of Poland. However, he had to turn cede Józef swiezynski already on October 23, 1918 this office. From 4 April to 5 September 1918, he took in his cabinet at the same time the post of finance minister. As a conservative landowner he hoped through ownership transfers to the German Empire, whose generous consideration of the interests of Polish Chelm and Vilnius, especially Germany still looked in the spring and summer of 1918 as a winner on the Eastern Front.

In the cabinet of Wincenty Witos he took over on November 26, 1920 re- finance minister, which he held until the end of his term on September 19, 1921.

Following the retirement from political life he was then director of the Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego in Warsaw.
