Jan Kasl

Jan Kasl ( born December 31, 1951 in Prague) is a Czech politician. He was from 1998 to 2002 Lord Mayor of Prague and is the founder of the party Evropští demokraté ( Europe Democrats )

Life

Kasl attended from 1967 to 1970, the secondary school in Prague and then studied until 1976 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in architecture. 1979 was followed by a study of the English language at the Charles University. During his studies he worked from 1977 as a project manager of the housing cooperative.

Kasl is married for the second time and has three children from his first marriage. His wife Terezie is a journalist and granddaughter of Ferdinand Peroutka.

Political career

By 1990, Kasl was not politically active. In 1991, he joined the ODS, as early as January 1990, he was chosen for the Občanské fórum in the municipal district of Prague 1 and took the position of deputy chairman. The focus of his work was the construction, finance and computer science. In November 1990 election to the representation of the City of Prague and the appointment would come as Chairman of the Committee for the development of the city.

In May 1993 he was elected to the Council of the Representation of the City of Prague, responsible for local development and the reorganization of the Department of the Chief Architect to the Department of Development of the City of Prague. On 26 November 1998 he was appointed as successor of Jan Koukal Mayor of the City, responsible for foreign policy, historic preservation and planning the strategic plan of Prague. In May 2002 he resigned because of internal disputes from the post of mayor.

Two months later, he founded the Malaparte Evropští demokraté, was elected in November to represent the City of Prague and on 17 December 2002 as Chairman of the European Democrats. This choice was confirmed in June 2003.
