Jan Möller

January Möller ( born September 17, 1953 in Malmö) is a former Swedish football player. The goalkeeper, who participated with the Swedish national team at the 1978 World Cup, was with Malmö FF in the final of the European Cup of Champions.

Career

Möller debuted in 1972 for Malmö FF in Allsvenskan, when he did not concede in a 3-0 win against Örgryte IS. Under coach Bob Houghton he became the first-choice goalkeeper. After winning the championship in the season in 1974 and the national cup in the same year he appeared in the European Champions Cup 1975/76 for the first time on the international stage when he was able to keep four penalties in the penalty shootout in the duel against 1 FC Magdeburg in the first round. After a successful title defense of the Doubles in 1975, he won in 1977 with the club its third title. Then coach Georg Ericson appointed him without previous international appearance as third goalkeeper behind Ronnie Hellström and Göran Hagberg in the squad for the World Cup finals tournament in Argentina in 1978, in which the country selection despite a draw with Brazil in the first round failed as a group Last behind group winners Austria and Spain.

In the European Cup of Champions 1978/79 Möller moved with Malmö FF after beating AS Monaco, Dynamo Kiew, Wisla Krakow and FK Austria Vienna the final. At Bristol City he was two seasons under contract before he moved on to North America along with Houghton 1982 Toronto Blizzard. There he played alongside Alan Merrick, Victor Kodelja, Jimmy Nicholl and Randy Ragan. The end of 1983 he left the club and was succeeded by Sven Habermann goal.

Möller returned to Sweden. Under coach Roy Hodgson, he finished in the season in 1985 with Malmo FF at the end of normal time in the first place, but failed with the team in the semifinals of the championship final at IFK Gothenburg. In the following year he repeated with the club 's success in the series and could after victories against IFK Norrköping and AIK again win the title.
