Japanese motorcycle Grand Prix

The Japanese Grand Prix motorcycle is a motorcycle race that has been held since 1962 and is one of the motorcycle world championship since 1963. It takes place at the Twin Ring Motegi Motegi close.

History

The race was first held in 1962 at the Suzuka International Racing Course and had in 1963 for the first time world championship status. 1966 and 1967 took the Grand Prix at Fuji, then he counted no more for 19 years for the Motorcycle World Championship.

Since the 1987 season, the Grand Prix of Japan counts continuously to the World Cup. By 2003, he was with the exception of 1999 when it took place at the Twin Ring Motegi, again held in Suzuka. In 2003, the local hero and 250 cc World Champion Daijiro Katō 2001 in Suzuka crashed hard and died a few days later from his injuries. This led to a permanent relocation of the race at the Motegi track of where the Grand Prix is now held annually since 2004.

In 2010, the Japanese Grand Prix was originally scheduled for 25 April, but was a few days before moved to Iceland due to the blocking of a large part of European airspace following the eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano on October 3. In the 2011 season has again been postponed as a result of the Tōhoku earthquake in 2011, the Grand Prix, this time from 24 April to 2 October.
