Jarabina

Jarabina ( until 1927 slovak " Jarembina "; rarely Girm German, Hungarian Berkenyéd - to 1907 Jarembina, Polish Jarzembina, russinisch officially until 1948 Орявина / Orjabina ) is a municipality in Stara Okres Ľubovňa in the north-eastern Slovakia. The nearest city is Stara Ľubovňa ( 5 km).

Jarabina part of the Prešov Region and had in 2007 862 inhabitants. Mayor 's Mikuláš Kaňa.

The first written record comes from the year 1329 as Gyerimp. The town was founded by German settlers in the Middle Ages. Later also Vlach and Ruthenians settled in the village and the Germans were slowly assimilated. 1910 onwards, of the 1,155 inhabitants only eight German, but 1,030 people Ruthenians. The rest was divided on Slovaks, Poles and Hungarians.

In addition to the Slovaks ( 44.12 %) live in the community and Ukrainians ( 29.14 %), Ruthenians ( 19.66 %) and Roma (4.56 %) ( 2001 census).
