JCall

Jcall European Jews is a call to " peace and reason " in the Middle East. This initiative has arisen following the example of the U.S. organization J- Street.

Genesis

The organization was founded on May 3, 2010 in Brussels. Founding Chairman is David Chemla, head of Peace Now in France. Among the founding fathers include Zeev Sternhell ( Hebrew University of Jerusalem ), the former Israeli ambassador to France, Eli Bar - Navi, and the former Israeli ambassador to Germany, Avi Primor, as well as Daniel Cohn- Bendit ( MEP ). Among the French signatories are, inter alia, the philosopher Alain Finkielkraut, under the British criminologist David cloves. A German section was launched in September 2010 to life. Its initiators heard Micha Brumlik (Frankfurt), first chairman is Rabbi Tovia Ben -Chorin (Berlin).

Objectives

The organization sees the danger of delegitimization of Israel by the occupation and the establishment of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and in East Jerusalem. It was therefore decided to act on the following basis:

  • Principle of "two states for two peoples "
  • Europe's responsibility for a reasonable settlement of the conflict
  • Warning of a systematic identification with the policies of the Israeli government
  • European Movement, which stands over the traditional disagreements.

First action of jcall was addressed to the European Parliament Petitions " appeal to reason ".

Accruals

The German section is bordered on the one hand on the "European Jews for a Just Peace " because this " cooperate" in the words of Micah Brumlik, with Hamas, which could not be supported by a majority of the Jews. Jcall Germany distinguishes itself from the other hand " by many - not all - Chairman of Jewish communities in Germany, which are of the opinion that criticism of Israeli government policy would weaken the country." This corresponds to the criticism of jcall from two sides, particularly evident in France.
