Jean Girault

Jean Girault ( born May 9, 1924 in Villenauxe -la -Grande, † July 24, 1982 in Paris) was a French film director and screenwriter.

Life and work

He visited after leaving school, the École des Travaux and played as a musician in the orchestra of Eddie Barclay. In 1946 he was bassist Claude Luther, when he was assistant director at Marcel Blistène. Already this year, he directed two short films, 1956 was followed by a documentary about Christian - Jaque.

From 1951 to 1960 he worked as a screenwriter, mainly of film comedies. His film debut as a director, he was 1960. 1962 he met the hitherto little- known supporting actor Louis de Funès know and worked with him since 1963. The success of The Gendarme of St. Tropez led to five sequels. He also worked with Jean Gabin and Dieter Hallervorden.

Despite these successes, he was little attention as a director. Jean Girault died during the filming of Louis and his crazy traffic wardens from tuberculosis. It was his twelfth collaboration with Louis de Funès.
