Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez

The gendarme of Saint Tropez, is a French comedy film with Louis de Funès in 1964 and the first of a six-part series of films by the gendarme Ludovic Cruchot. Directed by Jean Girault. The film opened on 27 May 1966 in the West German cinemas.

Action

Ludovic Cruchot, gendarme in a small mountain village, is promoted and transferred to Saint -Tropez. With much enthusiasm and even more choleric he goes there around misdemeanors and wrong. Especially on the still regarded as undesirable and shameless nudists who indulge their passion on a secluded beach, he 's after. After several failed attempts, he succeeds with a stroke of genius to arrest a whole horde of them and drive like sheep to the gendarmerie.

Cruchot is a single father of his adolescent daughter Nicole. This develops in Saint Tropez - to the dismay of her father - the gray wallflower for perky teen. Girls looking for connection and finds new, but also quite schnöselige friends. To please them, it conceals the fact that her father is a policeman, and indicates instead that he was the American billionaire Archibald Ferguson, owner of the luxury yacht in the harbor OLNICO.

This yacht is however happen to be the headquarters of a gang of criminals who has just stolen a valuable painting by Rembrandt van Rijn from a museum. It now gives rise to numerous confusions and complications which thieves can find those at the end Cruchot.

Saint Tropez on the Cote d' Azur, already a well-known attraction for artists and people from the high society, got through this film series a tremendous boost in popularity. The German theatrical release was on 27 May 1966.

The piece of music used in the film La Marche des Gendarmes was covered in 2001 by the band Edguy and published in France as an EP.
