Jean Lobstein

Johann Friedrich Georg Christian Martin Lobstein (the younger, also: Jean Georges Chrétien Frédéric Martin Lobstein, born May 8, 1777 Giessen, † March 7, 1835 ) was a German pathologist and anatomist. He was the nephew of the surgeon Johann Friedrich Lobstein and son of Alsatian theologian Johann Michael Lobstein.

In 1798 he became prosector and shortly afterwards director of the anatomical theater in Strasbourg. In 1802 he received his doctorate, and in 1804 he began lecturing on anatomy at the University of Strasbourg. In 1806 he became the first midwife in the Civil Hospital in Strasbourg and teacher at the school of midwifery of the department.

In 1813 he founded in Strasbourg a pathological museum.

In 1833, he coined the term arteriosclerosis.
