Jean-Marie Bayol

Jean -Marie Bayol ( born December 24, 1849 in Eyguières; † October 3, 1905 in Paris) was a French politician. He was from 1903 to 1905 member of the Senate.

Bayol studied medicine in Montpellier, stood from 1869 in the service of the French Navy and received his doctorate in 1874. With the Navy, he often stayed in French West Africa and was involved there from 1881 to expeditions. 1887 Bayol was appointed governor of Guinea and in 1889 appointed an Officer of the Legion of Honour. In the same year he was imprisoned for several months in Abomey as a result of a conflict with locals. In 1892 he was forced to withdraw from the governorship and returned to France. In the Bouches -du -Rhône, he was in 1898 elected to the General Council. In 1903 he managed to move into the Senate, where he joined the moderate left. He died in 1905 before the mandate expires.
