Jeff Farrell

Felix Jeffrey " Jeff" Farrell ( born February 28, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan ) is a former American swimmer, who was Olympic champion in 1960 with two seasons.

Farrell was a member of the U.S. selection of his age group already in his high school days. While studying at the University of Oklahoma and at Yale University, he became one of the world's best freestyle swimmer.

The five-time U.S. champion at AAU championships won in 1959 at the Pan American Games, the 100 meters freestyle in 56.3 seconds. When AAU Championship victory in 1960 he came with 54.8 seconds to two tenths of a second at the world record of the Australian John Devitt zoom. A week before the U.S. Olympic Qualification ( Trials ) he had to undergo surgery for appendicitis. With associated scar he stepped to the Trials and qualified as a third over 100m and fourth over 200m for the Olympic Games. For a single start he would, however, have to come in the top two.

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 Farrell was back in shape and swam the final stretch in both the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay and in the 4 × 100 m medley relay. In two seasons, he struck in world record time.

After he had completed his studies in 1963 at Yale University, he was twenty years in various countries as a swimming coach go. In the 1980s, he returned to the United States. After he had undercut 25 U.S. records in his playing days, including the world records with the seasons, he was able to increase this brand as Senior swimmer still where he regularly undercut U.S. records and world records in the various age groups.

In 1968 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
