It was named after the adjacent park of the same name on the eastern bank of the Saale.

Location

The Jena Paradies train station is on the southern edge of downtown Jena on a narrow strip between the ring road to the west and the Saale River in the east. Outside the station, there are two tram stops and the local bus station, so that connection is made to a number of lines of public transport.

History

The commissioning of the breakpoint Jena Paradies at kilometer 27.3 was on 15 October 1880. Until 1999, he served as a centrally located breakpoint only the urban and interurban transportation maintenance of the hall was the train station, in the north hall. In September 1996, the Jena City Council for Jena Paradies had chosen as the new ICE stop because the train station hall appeared to be locally located. Lack of funds at Deutsche Bahn AG then led to delays and construction of a temporary breakpoint. The built south of the old location 1998/1999 for about two million DM. The commissioning of the two wooden Behelfsbahnsteige followed on 26 September 1999 when the maintenance of the ICE trains on the Berlin -Leipzig- Munich was moved there from the train station hall.

On 1 March 2002, the construction and financing contracts signed for the new ICE station between Deutsche Bahn AG, the Land of Thuringia and the city of Jena. For 16.1 million euros, the new station to replace the existing regional station from 2004.

As part of the renovation of the old building started in 2003, the station was abandoned because of the existing island platform did not have the information necessary for the ICE operation 370 meters in length. The construction of the double outer platform between 27.0 and 27.4 km was along the existing railway line running under railway operations.

The new station was taken to the small timetable change in the summer of 2005. It was completed six months later than planned. The official opening was celebrated on June 18, 2005. The construction costs were about 21 million euros.

During the planning and construction phase temporary wooden platforms have been used for five years. Located between the old platform location and the rock basement and longitudinally coincident with the later new buildings transition - platform installations were dismantled and disposed of from the March 4, 2006 within a week.

Facilities

The station, which is classified operationally as breakpoint, consists of two spaced parallel, 370 -meter long platforms with a height of 55 centimeters, which are roofed over a length of 117 meters. You are on a dam, are due to the lack of space surrounding ground level among them rooms that accommodate two ticket offices of Deutsche Bahn and a bakery store, which in addition to baked goods also offers newspapers and other products for the travel demand. The adjacent toilets can be used during their opening times. These premises extend over a length of 63 meters. The embankment is broken by an underpass in the area adjacent to the sales and service stations. Thus, a passage between the city and the park was created. Another underpass is located further west at the height of the tram stop Paradiesbahnhof West and thus still below the platforms.

Overall Design of the project was Michael Hanka, first under IFB Dr. Braschel AG, starting in 2004 with his own office Hanka & Nolte architects.

Travelers who want to wooden runway (Erfurt -Weimar- Gera ), the second passing through Jena railway line change, must take advantage of the approximately 800 meters away and the train station Jena West, or alternatively at a few kilometers south train station Jena- Göschwitz change.

Importance

The train station is after the removal of the remote intercourse on the center - Germany connection and the associated holding in Jena West and Göschwitz the only way to be able to use long-distance trains without prior transfers. Nevertheless, it is consistent with an average daily frequenting of about 3,500 travelers only second only to the Jena Westbahnhof. This results primarily from its lower importance for the commuter transport.

Transport links

Off the clock connections connect individual traits Jena Paradies with:

  • Stralsund, Warnemünde, Rostock, Innsbruck, Regensburg, Passau (ICE 28)

In the year of commissioning of the new plant in 2005, the station of ICE trains at two- hour intervals, each weekend InterCités as well as 70 regional trains per day were served.

According to the Deutsche Bahn average each 15 boarding and alighting would be counted in the 32 holding daily ICE trains.

The commissioning of the new Ebensfeld -Erfurt, in December 2017, is to lose its status as system maintenance of the DB long-distance train station. As a replacement new commuter trains are provided. The German railway discussed, moreover, to use two pairs of trains between Jena and Berlin, which were not, however, cover the costs for their information. The trains will depart early in the morning and around 7:30 clock in the evening arrive in Berlin and Jena, one of them shortly before midnight. To what extent can be offered as a substitute additional regional transport, again according to the Deutsche Bahn can not be foreseen (as of August 2013).

After the planning status of 2010 individual long-distance trains should be done in off-peak position over Jena after commissioning of the new line. After the planning status of 2012, the ICE train services should be reduced ( to and from Berlin ) on two pairs of trains per day.
