Jens Schmidt ( born April 3, 1963 in Karl- Marx-Stadt ) is a former German football goalkeeper, who played one match for the GDR.

Career

Jens Schmidt began his career with BSG Chemie, Karl -Marx-Stadt. About the BSG bismuth Karl- Marx-Stadt, he joined the junior level of the FC Karl- Marx-Stadt ( FCK ). From there he went 1979 BSG bismuth floodplain. After initial operations with the 2nd team from 1985 in the second-rate DDR League Schmidt was taken 1986/87 alongside Jörg Weißflog as the second goalie in the league collective. This was followed by a further 13 appearances in the NOFV- Oberliga 1990/91 for the CFC, then the Chemnitz played until 1996 in the 2nd Bundesliga, in the Schmidt once again came to 63 inserts. After relegation in 1996 in the Regional Schmidt was not used in the first team of the CFC and had in 1997 due to a serious injury he had sustained in the second league match against FSV Zwickau, end his career.

The greatest sporting achievement was reaching the finals in fdgb Cup 1989, which he lost with the FCK against BFC Dynamo 0-1 for him. In 1990 he was East German runner-up. In 1993 he failed the CFC in the DFB Cup first in the semifinals at Hertha BSC / Amateurs (1:2).

At the international level he reached with Karl- Marx-Stadt 1989, the first knockout round of the UEFA Cup, where, however, against Juventus was a terminus for him. On September 12, 1990, he completed his only game that was won against Belgium 2-0. Since it was the last international match of the national soccer team of the GDR, the press wrote later, Schmidt was the only goalkeeper in the world, had to resort not once behind.
