Johann-Heinrich-Voß-Preis für Übersetzung

The Johann Heinrich Voss translation prizes will be awarded annually during the Spring Meeting of the German Academy for Language and Literature. He was as Johann Heinrich Voss Prize donated for the first time in 1958, "is targeted at translational life works as well as individual performances of works of poetry, drama, essay writing, and even more productive science [ ... ] distinguished ". 1977, the name of the prize has been expanded for clarity.

The award is named after the poet and philologist Johann Heinrich Voss, the Iliad and the Odyssey of Homer from ancient Greek translated first into German. It is endowed with 15,000 euros. The jury has a term of three years and currently consists (2010) of Ralph Dutli, Joachim Kalka (in charge), Friedhelm Kemp, Werner von Koppenfels, By Øhrgaard, Ilma Rakusa and Michael Walter.

The price should not be confused with the Johann Heinrich Voss Prize for Literature.
