Johann Jakob Haid

Johann Jacob Haid ( also Hayd; * 1704 Sweet or small Eislingen near Göppingen, † December 9, 1767 in Augsburg ) was a German engraver, mezzotint, portrait painter and publisher. He was the father of Johann Elias Haid.

Haid was probably related to the Augsburg artist family Haid. 1726 he went to study in Augsburg, and learned next battles and animal painting, especially portraiture. Later he turned not to the engraving and mezzotint. His teachers were Georg Philipp Rugendas and Johann Elias Ridinger.

He founded his own publishing house in Augsburg and became a successful publisher of portrait engraving in mezzotint series. Among his students Anton Graff and Johann Friedrich Bause.
