Johann Nauwach

Johann Nauwach (* 1595 in Brandenburg, † 1630 in Dresden ) was a German Baroque composer.

Life and work

From 1607 to 1612 he was a choir boy under Hans Leo Hassler in Dresden and then received at the request of Johann Georg I. a musical education in Florence and Turin, with lutenist Lorenzo Allegri, before he returned to Dresden in 1618.

Nauwach was a student of Heinrich Schütz and was lutenist in 1623 under his leadership. In the same year he was appointed Electoral chamber musician. Until 1629 he was a member of the Dresden court orchestra and composed ( after he converted to Catholicism ) as one of the first Germans of the Florentine Giulio Caccini Opernmonodie.
