Johann Rufinatscha

Johann Rufinatscha ( born October 1, 1812 in Mals, South Tyrol, † May 25, 1893 in Vienna) was an Austrian composer and music teacher.

Life

Rufinatscha was born in times and came at the age of 14 years to Innsbruck, where he studied at the music school club violin, piano and music theory until 1833. Subsequently, he moved to Vienna and became a pupil of Simon Sechter. Rufinatscha remained until his death in 1893 in Vienna and created a reputation as a respected teacher of piano and music theory. Among his pupils were Julius Epstein and Ignaz howler. With Johannes Brahms he was in friendly contact.

Work

Johann Rufinatscha considered the most significant native of Tyrol composer of the 19th century. His works make him appear as a kind of link between Franz Schubert and Anton Bruckner. The musical legacy of the composer must be kept by the Tyrolean State Museum, which has also produced several CDs with music Rufinatschas.
