John Cooper (athlete)

John Cooper ( John Hugh Cooper, born December 18, 1940 in Bromyard, Herefordshire, † March 3rd, 1974 at Ermenonville ) was a British hurdler.

John Cooper was a member of the British 4 x 400 - meter relay team, which at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 in a time of 3:01,6 min in the cast Tim Graham, Adrian Metcalfe, Cooper and Robbie Brightwell won the silver medal.

Coopers special discipline was the 400 - meter hurdles. For the Games in 1964, he finished in 50.1 s second behind the world record holder Rex Cawley (USA ), and thus won his second silver medal.

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, he reached over the long haul only hurdle the semi-finals and was eliminated in seventh place with 50.8 s. The final was won by his countryman and successor as the best British Langhürdler David Hemery.
