John de Mowbray, 3rd Duke of Norfolk

John Mowbray, 3rd Duke of Norfolk ( * 1415, † November 6, 1461 ) was an English nobleman. His parents were John Mowbray, 2nd Duke of Norfolk ( 1392-1432 ), and his wife, Katherine Neville, daughter of Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland, and his wife Joan Beaufort.

When his father's death in 1432, he took the title and the title of Earl Marshal of England.

John was with Eleanor Bourchier, daughter of William Bourchier, Count of Eu, and of his wife Anne of Gloucester, Countess of Buckingham, married. The marriage comes a son, John, who took his inheritance after the death of his father.

John took place in the Rose wars several political twists. At first he supported the House of York and its agents, Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York. 1459, after the Battle of Ludlow, he swore Henry VI. from the House of Lancaster loyalty to shortly afterwards overflowing York to the side.

Even after the death of York in 1460, he remained his son Edward, Earl of March and now 4th Duke of York, loyal and fought for York in the lost Second Battle of St Albans. On March 29, 1461, however, John decided to show during the hitherto undecided Battle of Towton battle for York. He was one of the nobles who eventually calling upon the young York to accept the English crown and played at the coronation on June 28, 1461 as Marshal of England an important ceremonial role.
