John Deehan

John Matthew Deehan ( born August 6, 1957 in Solihull ) is an English former football player and coach. As a player, he won the English League Cup in 1977 and 1985 with Aston Villa Norwich City.

Playing career

Aston Villa (1975-1979)

John Deehan began his career in the Football League First Division 1975/76 Aston Villa and reached the climber in the league. 1976/77 ended Deehan (27 Spiele/13 goals) the season with Villa in fourth place in the standings and was merely six points behind the champions Liverpool FC. Was crowned the good season by winning the English League Cup final against Everton.

In September 1979 he moved to league rivals West Bromwich Albion and ended the 1979/80 season in tenth place. Successful acted the club from West Bromwich 1980/81 with the fourth place in the standings. However Deehan was not as desired to advantage and moved in December 1981 to Norwich City.

Norwich City (1981-1986)

With the second division he climbed on the end of the season at the premier league and reached the First Division in 1982/83 in the league. John Deehan scored twenty goals in forty league games and was thus in the scoring charts with John Wark of Ipswich Town and Bob Latchford Swansea City in third place. Despite thirteen hits of Deehan Norwich rose in 1985 to the second division, but gained a 1-0 victory over the AFC Sunderland the League Cup.

He subsequently worked for Ipswich Town, Manchester City and FC Barnsley he finished his playing career in 1990.

Coaching career

Norwich City (1994-1995)

In 1992 he started a job as an assistant coach when trained by Mike Walker first division Norwich City and reached in the newly introduced Premier League 1992/93 to third place in the standings. Coach Mike Walker left Norwich to become the new coach of FC Everton on 6 January 1994 and was replaced by Deehan. After the twelfth place in the Premier League 1993/94, Norwich rose in 1994/95 as a Third to last in the second division from. Deehans activity in Norwich ended 31. July 1995.

Wigan Athletic (1995-1998)

At the beginning of the 1995/96 season, he took over as coach at fourth division club Wigan Athletic. In 1997, he won the championship with his team in the Third Division. After relegation in the 1997/98 season he joined as an assistant coach Steve Bruce to Sheffield United. In the following years was followed by other activities as an assistant coach at Huddersfield Town and Aston Villa.
