John Garcia-Thompson

John Garcia- Thompson, Spanish Juan Claudio Garcia Thompson ( born June 8, 1979 in Palma de Mallorca) is a British beach volleyball players of Spanish origin. He played until 2006 for Spain and from 2009 for Britain.

Career

Garcia- Thompson played in 1999 and 2001 his first international tournaments. In 2002, he formed a duo with Fabio Díez, which at the European Championships in Basel in the third round of the Swiss Heuscher / Kobel was defeated and eliminated in the loser's bracket against the Austrians Gartmayer / Nowotny. A year later the European Championships in Alanya for Garcia Thompson and his new partner Antonio Heras Cotrino ended despite an opening victory against the Swiss Egger / Heyer as a group Last in the preliminary round. Shortly after the Spaniards came as runners-up in the knockout round of the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro and lost to the Brazilians Fred / Brazão.

2011 made Garcia- Thompson a new duo with Steven Grotowski. In the first year together, they achieved their best result with rank 17 at the Shanghai Open. At the Grand Slam in the same place they came in 2012 as the 25th place as the Brasília Open. For the Olympic Games in London, they were nominated by the British Association as the host team. So they went as the first British from ever at an Olympic beach volleyball tournament. However, in their three group matches they managed not win the set, so they were eliminated in the first round.
